Macy's

Location: 151 W 34th St, New York, NY 10001

They say everything’s bigger in Texas but some things in New York are pretty big too! Among them, Macy’s Department store!! One of the most iconic names in New York City shopping is the emblematic Macy’s Herald Square.

This particular Macy’s store is the retailer’s nationwide flagship location, helping it to quickly reach prime NYC attraction status. Looming in size, the Macys 34th Street building spans nearly an entire city block, offering near-limitless shopping opportunities to the droves of visitors who flock to its aisles.

Macy’s department store opened in 1858 as a dry goods store, located in Manhattan at 14th Street and Sixth Avenue.  As it expanded to include more varied merchandise, Macy’s store outgrew its original building and moved uptown in 1902 to 34th Street and Broadway, where it remains today. Macys 34th Street is still one of NYC’s premier destinations for luxury shopping, affordable finds, dining and events.

Macy’s Manhattan Shopping Experience

Macy’s stores offer so much more than your typical shopping affair. Here are some of the must-have experiences at Macy’s Manhattan!

Luxury shopping

As any fashionista will be quick to tell you, the Macy’s store is the epicenter of style and has been for over a century. The main floor, deemed as “Luxury Hall,” devotes a significant amount of floor space to the world’s leading couture brands like Gucci, Burberry, and Longchamp. But the lux retailer doesn’t stop at clothing and accessories. Macys Manhattan shoppers will also find the latest and greatest in makeup, skin-care, and fragrances as well. A trip up to the second floor reveals a shoe lover's paradise—nearly 39,000 square feet of the trendiest styles!

My Stylist

The sheer volume of options available at Macy’s Herald Square is both exciting and challenging as it can be difficult to find exactly the right item. Cue My Stylist, a free service offered exclusively by Macys NYC to help shoppers find the perfect outfit or gift. The best part? There’s no minimum purchase necessary for this consultation.

Dining

End a shopping-filled day at Macys NYC in style with a wide range of gourmet food options. Enjoy premium views of the Empire State Building and Broadway during dinner at Italian eatery Stella 34 Trattoria. Opt for an upscale classic with a visit to American gastropub Rowland’s Bar & Grill or keep it casual with a visit to the Chef Street food trucks, which feature delights including burgers, ramen, Latin-inspired dishes and wings. Of course, you always have your rab-and-go staples to choose from, including Starbucks, Juice Press, Pinkberry, or the third-floor pizza bar.

The NYC & Company Visitor Center

Located on the mezzanine level, the Official NYC Information Center is outfitted with touchscreen kiosks with information in multiple languages to help visitors plan their trips. Guests can get the latest news on special events, promotions and merchandise available at Macys Manhattan, not to mention a 10 percent off coupon.

Annual events

Macy’s is known for delivering some of the most highly anticipated events in New York City each year. The Thanksgiving Day Parade marks the unofficial start of the holiday season. (The parade began in 1924 by Macy’s immigrant employees seeking to celebrate American customs.) Soon after, visitors and locals gather around to view its dazzling holiday window displays. Macy’s department store was the first retailer to feature holiday window displays, which started in 1864 when the store installed lighted window displays to catch the attention of passersby. During the spring, the annual Macy’s Flower Show delights visitors with millions of live flowers, plants and trees from around the globe while the summer offers Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks show, lighting up the NYC skyline and waterways with an unforgettable display.
