You’ve always wanted to visit NYC. You already have a list of all the museums, shows, and sights you want to see. You’re so busy thinking about all the amazing landmarks you are going to visit, the delicious food you are going to eat, and the shopping you are going to be doing, that you forget about the little things. You’re going to need these five quick tips for your visit to NYC.
1. Sensible Shoes
This is very important. New York City is
BIG and you are going to want sensible walking shoes. You know why? Because you are going to be doing a lot of walking! You also may want to go bike riding through Central Park and comfort will be key. Of course fashion is essential while you are in New York, but you want to know what else is important? Not being stuck in your hotel room with blisters on your feet. So bring those tennis shoes! Your feet will thank you.
2. Be Prepared For Weather
The weather can change in the blink of an eye! So yes, you are going to need the umbrella, and that jacket, and those jeans along with those shorts. Whether it is going to be 100 degrees or freezing cold, you want your visit to NYC to be enjoyable and that means being prepared. Checking what the weather is going to be like every morning is highly recommended, and always, ALWAYS, bring your umbrella. Rain storms frequent NYC without much warning and you don’t want to be caught without one.
3. Download Sit or Squat:Restroom Finder onto your Phone
This is an absolute must, especially if you have little ones with you! This app is provided by Charmin, and it allows you to find the nearest public restroom. It has over 100,000 public bathrooms in its database! So when you hear the words, “Mom, I have to go to the bathroom” you will have this trusty
app to turn too. Another awesome feature is that once you have used the restroom, you can rate it “sit” or “squat” depending on the cleanliness to warn the next family who finds themselves with that emergency.
4. Choose Your Season Wisely
Just like anywhere, there are certain times that you may want to avoid visiting NYC. If you are interested in saving some money the late summer and winter months are when you’ll want to visit. If you want to see New York during the busiest seasons you’ll want to go during the Spring, Fall, or Christmas. In the
Spring you can catch the opening day of the Mets and the Yankees or celebrate Cinco De Mayo. In the
Fall come to the beer-laden Oktoberfest, and the Halloween Parade. Get in the holiday spirit by seeing all the stores a lit with lights and displays around Christmas time. But remember, along with being the busiest seasons, these are also the most expensive. Hotel rooms are hard to find and prices soar. Make sure to make you accommodations in advance!
5. Take A Tour
What NYC visit would be complete without at least one
tour? Yes, it may sound like the typical tourist thing to do, but imagine yourself taking a night tour and seeing Times Square and the Empire State Building from atop a double decker bus. How about taking a helicopter tour and flying right by the Statue of Liberty? Or a bike tour that takes you over the Brooklyn Bridge? With so many different tour options, you are going to have a hard time deciding on just one!
