Canstruction Raises Hunger Awareness with Sculptures Made of Cans

The world’s most imaginative food charity and design competition is on display at Brookfield Place from now until November 16, 2016. Canstruction is a display of 100,000 unopened cans of food stacked into larger-than-life sculptures, and has been creating a lot of buzz. In partnership with Arts Brookfield for the 24th year, the cans are donated to City Harvest for distribution to about 500 soup kitchens and food pantries across New York City. In the effort to raise hunger awareness , 25 teams of the city’s top architecture and engineering design firms and students are challenge to transform the cans into pop-art masterpieces. Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable cans of food to be donated, and admission is free. The can masterpieces will be judged for Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Most Cans, and Jurors’ Favorite, and then the public will vote for the People’s Choice Award at BrookfieldPlaceNY.com.
